McCleary: I’m settling in well

Winger Garath McCleary has said that he is settling in well with his new side Reading and looks forward to the opportunity of Premier League football.


The 25-year old signed with the Premier League boys in May on a free transfer, but it hasn’t taken long for McCleary to settle in with his new team mates. His Nottingham Forest team mate Chris Gunter has also joined the Royals, with both players sharing the same agent. The former Slough Town player has made a superb jump from non-league football to the top division within four years.


Speaking to SkySports.com, McCleary commented: ‘I am settling in quite well. It has been really good as everyone has taken to me quite well and I know some of the new signings and some of the players who were already here. It has been really good and I am really enjoying it. I am really excited and I can’t wait to test myself in Premier League.’


‘I think it is where every professional footballer wants to be. I just want to get the games under way. Pre-season is really as you get your fitness from it, but as soon as the Premier League starts and you know you are involved in it it will be a fantastic place to be and I just cannot wait. As soon we get out and play the first game of the season I think it will hit me how far I have come in such a short space of time.’


McCleary has appeared in both of the Royals’ friendlies against AFC Wimbledon and CDR Quarteirense, impressing many in those games. Some question whether McCleary can make the step up to Premier League football, considering he was not a regular in the Forest side since the start of last season.
