Following on from Mikkel Andersen signing a new 3 year contract, there is more good news for another Royals goalkeeper. Youngster Alex McCarthy has been included in the England under 21’s squad for a game against Uzbekistan.

He is one of only 2 goalkeepers in the squad and is likely to play at least some part in the game, making his debut for his country.

His situation at the Madejski Stadium is a little unclear though, with him seemingly 3rd choice stopper behind Adam Federici and Ben Hamer. There is the possibility of another loan spell in a bid to gain more first team experience after he spent time at Yeovil last season.

Also in the squad is former loanee left back Ryan Bertrand who remains at Chelsea as things stand. He has been linked to another loan spell at Nottingham Forest after his succesful stay at the Mad Stad last season.
