McCarthy adapting to life at Leeds

On-loan goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has said he is adjutsing very well to life at Championship side Leeds United, following his loan move from Reading a few weeks ago.

The England U21 international is currently on a one-month loan deal in Yorkshire and has put in some fine performances for Leeds. He kept a clean sheet in his first game against Leicester and put in a man-of-the-match performance against Burnley in their 2-1 win.

The 21-year old told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I`m playing games and that`s the main thing. If I stay longer, for whatever reason, it would obviously be a bonus. There`s six games (in my loan) to get under my belt.”

Leeds boss Simon Grayson was also pull of praise for McCarthy. He said: ‘Alex kept us in the game and he’s a very good goalkeeper. He’s got a presence about him and you can see why Reading and England rate him.’

The loan could extend depending on the progress of injured keeper Andy Lonergan but McCarthy has said he believes his long-term future lies at the Madejski Stadium with his home town club.

Leeds have improved their goalkeeping contingent further by signing former Birmingham keeper Maik Taylor on loan, but he is expected to play second fiddle to Alex, as Paul Rachuka has gone on loan to Tranmere.
