Matty Mills – ‘The fans were great’

Centre back Mills has been in fine form since regaining his place in the Royals starting 11 under Brian McDermott but following his sending off at Doncaster he will miss the game against Plymouth. However he was quick to praise the fans who travelled to Doncaster in an interview with BBC Radio Berkshire.

‘When we took the lead and the fans were singing to the manager and are backing the boys, it really does spur you on.’

Whilst he admitted that there hasn’t been that backing all season, he quickly put the blame (all be it indirectly) on former manager Brendan Rodgers who nearly shipped him out to QPR before he was sacked.

‘I don’t think we’ve had that for a lot of the season. That’s not the fans’ fault – it’s the people on the pitch and the people in the dugout.’

With Plymouth arriving at the Mad Stad, Mills is keen to make our home patch a fortress once more.

‘I think we’re starting to get things right and if we can get the fans on board then we can make the Madejski Stadium a really hard place to come and win.’
