It’s finally here, the kick off to the Championship season, as we open this season’s account against Frank Lampard in his first game in management.
Paul Clement will have a bit of a selection headache going into the game as Reading are short on defensive options. The biggest loss is that Liam Moore is going to miss out after handing in a transfer request last week and negotiations between the Royals and Brighton continue. Elsewhere, Gunter has picked up a thigh injury that has ruled him out for up to six weeks, as well as Tyler Blackett serving the last match of a three game suspension he picked up at the end of last season. Dave Edwards, Callum Harriot, Adrian Popa, Jordan Obita and Garath McCleary will all miss out with injury too.
A handful of players could be in line to make their debuts, with Andy Yiadom and David Meyler expected to start, but new striking options Marc McNulty and Sam Baldock are both expected to be named on the bench.
The biggest news for Derby is that Tom Huddlestone has recovered from a groin injury that he sustained and could feature, and former Reading man George Evans could also make an appearance, but is expected to be named on the bench. Former Royals Nick Blackman and Chris Martin are expected to miss out through injury, as is George Thorne.
This will be a tough start for Reading as Derby are heavy favourites going into the game, and with the game being on TV, the rest of the Championship will all have their eyes on this game, so the Royals will need to give a good account of themselves on opening night.
