Paul Mariner took over from long serving Paul Sturrock earlier this season in the Home Park hotseat but hasn’t greatly improved the results. The Pilgrims find themselves 2nd bottom of the table, one place below the Royals, and despite Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to West Brom they are sure to be ready for their visit to the Madejski Stadium, and steering clear of any junk food!

‘The players are aware of the tought run in, with a game every four days or so. We’ve stressed how important rest is, eating habits and hydration, all the usual things.’

With a busy schedule coming up for all Championship sides, Mariner has also reassured his squad players that they will be needed in the coming weeks, starting with Tuesdays relegation six pointer.

‘Every single players has been wonderful, We’ve explained to the players who are not starting how important they are to the group because we are certainly not going to get out of this situation with 11 players.’
