Reading striker Mathieu Manset would relish the opportunity to partner new signing Adam Le Fondre up front if the chance came along.

Both forwards were playing League Two football this time last year but with Reading`s usual transfer policy of dipping into the lower leagues, the Royals have given them a chance to shine at a higher level, as they did with former strikers Shane Long and Kevin Doyle.

Speaking to the Reading Post, the 22-year old said: “I think it is a good combination, I can try and hold the ball up and Alfie can make something, we will have to wait and see though.

The Royals spent around £600k to acquire them from their respective League One teams and with Brian McDermott keen to make changes to a side that has lost four on the bounce, it could mean Manset`s dream partnership could come true.

The man nicknamed ‘Beast` added: “I can`t say whether or not I deserve a start, that`s down to the manager, but I hope I will start on Saturday.”

Alongside Hal Robson-Kanu, Manset is currently joint top scorer for the Royals, with his superb sub display against Millwall which saw the Ivorian forward score a brace.
