We waited 314 long days for one signing, now we have had two in two days – absolute madness!

This is the expected signing of Jamie Mackie, who joins on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest, joining team mate Simon Cox, who signed on Thursday. Mackie will not be involved for the Wigan game though, as he is still nursing a minor hamstring problem.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, the former QPR player said: ‘This is a great opportunity for me. Speaking to the manager, I know this club have a lot of really good, young players breaking through into the first team and it feels great to be part of that.’

Mackie, 28, has played as a striker for the majority of his career, but has adopted a wide position in recent seasons. He has experience of Premier League and Championship football, as well as being capped nine times by Scotland, where he has scored on two occasions.

Another good signing by Adkins, adding needed experience to a rather young squad. Like Cox, he is at an age where he should be in his prime, but whether it pans out that way, we shall see. I’m sure he will be a hit with our fans, especially because of his top work rate.
