Long out for Ireland

Long was selected in Giovanni Trappatoni’s squad for the two legged play off against 1998 World Champions France, but a calf injury has stopped him joining up with his international team mates.

It is not clear when Long picked up this injury, but it would appear that it was in the Royals 1-1 draw with Ipswich at the weekend, when he came off the bench in the second half.

Darren O’Dea is the only ‘Reading’ player left in the squad that will play the first leg in Dublin on Saturday, with the return in Paris on Wednesday.
