Reading striker Shane Long has completed his move to Premier League side West Brom on a three-year contract.
The fee has been left undisclosed but is believed to be around the £6m mark with various add-ons, as the Royals did not want to take the risk of losing him on a free next summer.
The Republic of Ireland international has always been a man in demand following his 25 goals last season that helped the Royals to 5th position in the league and a Play-off final at Wembley.
The 24-year old was linked with various other Premier League clubs but Roy Hodgson has captured his man, having been a long-term admirer of the forward.
Reading boss Brian McDermott has wished Shane the best of luck in his move and has spoke out about how he has deserved it.
He told the RFC official site: ‘He loves the club, he was in no way looking to leave the club, he’s gone into the Premiership, there was interest from the Championship as well, but it was right for him to play in the Premiership and that’s where he’s going.’
McDermott went onto add: ‘West Bromwich Albion & Roy Hodgson are very lucky to get Shane and I’m sure their fans will see what a great talent he is and how hard he’ll work for the team.’
The Reading board have previously stated if Long was to be sold, their would be no more need for any sales. Which could potentially secure the futures of the likes of Adam Federici and Jimmy Kebe.
Whether McDermott delves into the transfer market to sign a replacement remains to be known, with him reportedly keen on Crawley striker Matt Tubbs and free agent Matt Derbyshire.
