The chase for Reading striker Shane Long is hotting up as West Ham have their bid rejected and Liverpool have renewed their interest in the forward.

We reported to you yesterday that West Ham had made a bid for the in-demand striker but the approach was rejected by the Reading board.

The deal was worth around £8m, with £5m up front and £3m add-ons but it is believed the Royals are looking for more money up front and they are also not keen on selling him to a Championship rival.

Director of Football Nicky Hammond told the Reading Post: ‘We want Shane at the club, but we have had offers for him. None of those have been at a level or point where we are prepared to trade.’

Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool have also renewed their interest in the Republic of Ireland international.

Dalglish reportedly sent scouts to watch the 24-year old in action at Reading’s pre-season friendly at Northampton, where Long scored two goals.

Other teams are keen on the forward, including Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton and Alan Pardew’s Newcastle.

A great player need to get him,he can play anywhere up front even as A wideman with lots of pace .Also has a lot of guts and determination something that has been lacking with Torres and Ngog also please hold on to Aquaman.

Think it may be a step too far to join Liverpool but I do agree he has the guts and the determination to reward him goals, as he has shown for us.
