Reading FC have announced that for the forthcoming season their kit will be sponsored by supermarket chain Waitrose.

The Royals had previously been sponsored by Kyocera, but once the contract ended, Reading began actively seeking a new sponsorship deal.

Waitrose become the only food retailer in Britain to sponsor a major football team.

Reading chairman John Madejski said, ‘We are absolutely delighted to announce the start of what we hope will prove to be a long-term partnership with one of the most reputable and respected retail brands in the UK.

‘We hope that this will become a pioneering partnership and we are already aiming to introduce Waitrose food and drink products across the stadium, hotel and conference centre, which we are sure will be well received by our supporters.`

Waitrose Commercial Director, Richard Hodgson said, ‘Waitrose is committed to supporting the communities in which we trade, and our sponsorship of Reading Football Club will take us into the heart of the community in one of our prime retailing areas.`

Whilst having ‘Waitrose` printed on their shirts may lead to large amount of ridicule from away fans, at least it does mean the Madejski Stadium will be pact to the rafters with tasty Waitrose food. Bring on the Belgian Farm Assured Coarse Pork Pate with Green Peppercorns, mmm, delicious.
