Royals’ striker Leroy Lita is determined to force his way back into Steve Coppell’s plans despite missing the decisive penalty in Reading’s Carling Cup defeat at Stoke.
Lita has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks, after starting the first three games and failing to hit the back of the net.
The England under-21 international hasn’t featured in the league for Reading since the 4-2 defeat at Charlton.
The Carling Cup match at Stoke on Tuesday night offered Lita a chance to force his way back into Coppell’s plans, but he missed the final spot-kick in the resulting penalty shoot-out, with his calm reaction leading to fans questioning his attitude.
Lita has now spoken of his determination to get back in the Reading side. He said: ‘I’ve spoken to the gaffer about my situation, but I understand the team has been doing well and the gaffer’s got to do the best thing for the team.
‘Everyone wants to play as much as they can but I’ve just got to keep training hard.
‘I’m not worried about my future because I know there’s only one person who can turn around my position – me.
‘Strong characters always come back and I’m a strong character.’
The Royals face Swansea at home on Saturday and Lita will be hopeful of a place on the bench following some poor performances from fellow front-man Shane Long.

A strong character, your having a laugh, a strong character would have kept their cool and buried the penalty. I think Leroy huffs and puffs, but unfotunately could not hit a barn door. A striker has to be judged by his goals and although Leroy is a decent player, his recent and not so recent goal scoring record is hopeless.
i thought he did well playing for you and i was shocked to see him not getting a game.
