Substitute Leroy Lita capped an exciting cameo appearance with the equalising goal in the 79th minute of England Under-21`s draw with Spain this evening.

The Royals striker was surprisingly not named in the starting line up by Stuart Pearce, despite master miming the downfall of Pearce`s own Manchester City this past weekend.

The explosive forward was introduced in the 62nd minute, and instantly gave an example of what he can do with a dangerous run into the Spanish area.

He then scored a 79th minute header to bring equality to the scoreline and secure his second goal in three appearances in an England shirt.

England were 2-1 down at that stage, having trailed 2-0 at the break and pulled one back early in the second period through Preston’s David Nugent.

The Royals striker won a corner with his first touch and was a constant threat to the Spanish defence.

His goal came from a left wing cross by Curtis Davies, which curled slightly behind the Royals’ striker but he was able to twist his body and send a superbly placed header into the left corner.

The strike was Leroy’s tenth in ten games and will help his prospects of being picked in the England squad for this summer’s Under-21 European Championships.

When you look at the strikers who were called up – Peter Crouch, Andrew Johnson, and Jermain Defoe – Lita’s recent form puts the three of them to shame. Leroy is undoubtedly the country’s top marksman at the moment!
