Reading defender Joseph Mills is set to leave the club, going on loan to Championship side Burnley.

The 22-year old joined the Royals in August last year from Southampton on a one-year deal, but extended his contract by another year during last year’s campaign. The move will be a season-long loan but a permanent move could be agreed, depending on Mills’ progress.

The signing of Nicky Shorey pushed the former Doncaster player lower down the pecking order at the Madejski Stadium, but it is expected that Reading will have a recall option on Mills if he is required. Brother of former captain, Matt, made 14 appearances in total last season.
