We’re half way through the transfer window and Reading have still only made one new signing.

Marek Matejovsky, the Czech Republic international is currently the only bit of business Reading have done this January, this looks set to change however.

Currently the Royals have Polish International goalkeeper Wojciech Kowalewski (try saying that after a few beers!) on trial and with Marcus Hahnemann not having the best of seasons so far, the ‘keeper could well be signed permanently.

Kowalewski is a free agent after being released from Spartak Moscow. He was Spartak’s first choice keeper for several years and has played in the Champions League.

At the other end of the pitch, Reading have reportedly agreed a deal for Malian international striker Jimmy Kebe and are close to signing Maltese international midfielder Udo Nwoko.

Kebe, who is out of contract in the summer, is apparently waiting for his loan club Boulogne to agree to release him to enable him to move to Reading this month.

Nwoko, according to reports, has already undergone a medical at the Madejski Stadium and is set to join from Portugese side Leixoes for around £550,000. According to Leixoes president Carlos Oliveira, ‘The deal is practically closed.’

It’s encouraging that Reading do seem to be looking to add to their squad, but with a centre back still a priority, it is somewhat concerning that the club is continuously linked with strikers.
