The 25 year old picked up the Championship?s award for his goalscoring during the festive month, finding the net five times as well as laying on goals for others.

Kitson?s festive five moves his total for the season onto fifteen in 22 appearances, a major factor as to why Reading are at the top of the table.

Three of his goals came in the 5-1 rout of Brighton at the Madejski Stadium but he was quick to move the limelight towards his team mates.

‘It’s obviously an individual award but I’ve got to emphasise that without the players and coaches behind you, I wouldn’t have stood a chance of winning any awards like this,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘It’s largely thanks to some terrific service from Glen Little in particular, that I’ve been able to score so many goals.’

“Adding: ‘But I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Reading and got on well with the fans, so I hope that is shown on Sunday. I hope to get a nice reception, I gave my all for Reading and I hope there is a mutual appreciation from the supporters – there certainly is from my side.’ “
