Khumalo set to return to Spurs

On-loan Tottenham defender Bongani Khumalo could be set to leave Reading this month, after failing to feature in Brian McDermott’s recent plans. He has not played since the end of the August.

The 25-year old did have injury problems in September and October which hindered his progress but with the outstanding form of Kaspars Gorkss and Alex Pearce, Khumalo has failed to nail down a regular place in the side.

However, McDermott has reportedly said that he would only end the loan deal of the South African international, if they could bring in potential target Kareligh Osbourne. A deal however appears to be off for the Brentford defender.

This could lead to McDermott keeping Khumalo for the season, which was originally stated on the contract of the loan. The outgoing loan of Sean Morrison to Huddersfield adds to this pressure to sign a defender, despite Ian Harte and Brynjar Gunnarsson capable of playing in that position.

Makes no sense what so ever to me, why loan him in the first place for the season, ok hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if his not playing for Reading, what’s the point in that, come to that he can’t that good in the first place. Should move down a league.

I have only seen him play a few times but he didn’t come across a world-class defender, he seemed good enough for Championship level. I don’t think injury helped his cause, along with the great form of our current partnership. I think a loan to another Championship club would be viable for him.

he got loaned out with the intention of him playing games at a small club like Reading. but he hasn’t established himself so spurs will take him back and put him out against elsewhere to a team who can offer more games.

Best bet is to look at a team bottom of the championship level who have a busy defense, this will get him used to English footy.

Never understood why we bought him in the first place. If he’s seen as below Bassong in the pecking order he has no future at the lane. It’s not even as if he’s a youngster learning the game. He’s another Grzegorz Rasiak, out of his depth and found wanting.
