Niall Keown – of course the son of former Arsenal and England international Martin – has left Reading for a loan spell with Scottish club Partick Thistle.

The defender hasn’t been involved in Jaap Stam’s plans this season but does captain the Reading U23 side. However, Keown is in need of first team football to further his development so this loan spell isn’t a bad move.

Keown has linked up with the Scottish Premiership side on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

Unlike his father Martin who played for England Niall would appear set to play for the Republic of Ireland as he’s been capped at U21 level by them with the academy graduate so far making two first team appearances.

21 year old Keown signed a new three year contract with Reading in 2015 so still has a good 18 months or so remaining on it – and will hope to see that through – but in the immediate future he’ll look to make the most of this loan spell with Partick as he aims to catch the eye of Stam in a first team environment.
