New signing Noel Hunt scored the opening goal at the Reading reserves recorded a comfortable win against Southampton.

Hunt, who scored on his Royals debut in the league cup tie and Dagenham, will now be hoping to get more of a run out against Charlton on Saturday, than his three minute cameo in the home game against Plymouth.

Youngsters James Henry and Alex Pearce were also impressive for the reserves, with the latter rounding of the scoring after a Saints own goal handed the Royals a second.

Pearce and Henry, along with Jem Karacan and Julian Kelly are all tipped to play a part with the first team this season and their emergence will put added pressure on the more experienced players to perform.

Royals Coach Nigel Gibbs was impressed with the professional display.

He said: ‘At the start of the second half they had a good spell and we were under pressure, but we defended well and the keeper Mikkel Andersen made some good saves.

‘The second goal gave us a nice cushion and the third was a very well worked set piece, with good delivery from James Henry and an excellent header from Pearcey.’

Yeah, would be nice to see Pearce, Henry and Karacan get a run out sooner rather than later as well.

Hunt in, Doyle or Lita out ! Seriously we need at least one of our strikers to score 20+ goals this season and if Lita and Doyle dont start scoring soon we could end up mid table. We cannot rely on Sonko to be top goal scorer…
