Reading midfielder Brian Howard has signed for fellow Championship side Millwall, signing a three-month loan deal at the Den.

The 28-year old has been frustrated with his lack of starts at the Madejski Stadium, with the former Barnsley man only starting in the first round tie of the Carling Cup against Charlton.

McDermott old the RFC official site: ‘I’ve been talking to Brian regularly over a period of time and during the summer months. But the way in which he has conducted himself has been first class. He is a top professional and has been great to have around the place.’

Howard has made 67 appearances and has scored three goals in his two-year tenure at the club, having signed from Sheffield United in 2009.

Whether Howard has a future at RFC remains to be seen, with Reading lacking the creative spark in the midfield which all three recognised centre midfielder’s seem to lack.
