Hammers in for Harps

Following speculation linking Reading midfielder James Harper to the likes of Newcastle and Middlesbrough, it’s West Ham who have emerged as favourites to sign the former Arsenal man.

Harper is not looking to leave Reading, but after 7 years at the club, it may be in th ebest interest of both parties for the midfielder to move on.
A switch to Upton Park, as opposed to the north east, would be more appealing to Chelmsford-born Harper.

Harper has made over 300 appearances for the Royals since his move from Arsenal in 2001, and it is thought that Reading would want something in the region of £3million for him.

If Harper leaves then it could open the door for Steve Coppell to make a move for Swansea`s Dutch star Ferrie Bodde.

Derby have dropped out of the race for the 26-year-old after their £750,000 bid was rejected.

The Welsh club are holding out for £2million.

Rams chairman of football Adam Pearson said: ‘After failing to reach an agreement with Swansea, we have decided to pursue other targets.’

Meanwhile flop Emerse Fae is on the verge of a move to French club Nice.

The Ivory Coast international has failed to make an impact at Reading and it looks as though he will be joining Nice on an initial loan deal, with an option to buy.

I would have thought you would be happy with James Harper to stay. Ferre Bodde is unproven at Championship level.

In all fairness we need to build our team around matejovsky and he and harper just don’t seem to play well together. Harper works hard, but is too lightweight and can’t tackle.
