Reainf midfielder Danny Guthrie has said he hopes Newcastle fans understand why he left in the summer, as he returns to his forming stamping ground this afternoon.

The 25-year old left Tyneside for Berkshire in the summer, following the expiry of Guthrie’s contract at Newcastle. Under the management of Alan Pardew, the former Liverpool midfielder struggled to hold down a place with the likes of Cheik Tiote and Yohan Cabaye in front of him, meaning Danny felt it was the right time to move on.

Speaking to ChronicleLive.co.uk, Danny said: “It will be interesting to see what reaction I get. I did not leave United on bad terms. I am sure the fans understand the reasons why I decided to leave. It will be great to go back – it is a good game to look forward to. I have a lot of great memories and a lot of friends there.”

‘The club weret relegated in my first season but I was only a young lad. It was great to bounce back from that. Last season was really, really good. We did so well in terms of where we finished. I am looking forward to going back there. Hopefully, we will pick up three points, but it will be tough.’

I don’t think he has anything to prove to the fans, but might have a slight point to prove to Pardew and his lack of playing time. Either way, I’m sure Danny is going to relish it. Since coming back into the side in recent weeks, his attitude has improved dramatically, along with his playing form.
