Reading Danny Guthrie has apologised for refusing to play against Sunderland, but has still been fined two weeks wages the club.

The 25-year old refused to play for the Royals on Tuesday night, as they lost 3-0 to Sunderland, with the midfielder stating ‘his head wasn’t in it’. It was reported yesterday that Reading decided to fine Guthrie two weeks wages for his actions, before the former Newcastle midfielder went public of expressing his regret over the incident.

Speaking to Jonny Fordham of the Reading Post, Guthrie said: “I hold my hands up and apologise. It’s something that we will deal with internally. There’s no problem with anyone. I have my reasons for what happened, it shouldn’t have happened, but it did. My head just wasn’t right.” “I love being at this club – I just want to play football.’

I’m glad that Danny came out and rectified the situation, but this won’t just go away like nothing happened, there will still be bad blood. I personally would welcome him back to the side, as he is what we are missing at the moment. I’m hoping Brian will give Guthrie his chance soon to prove what he is capable of.

so what are these “reasons”, does anyone know?

No one knows, we think it’s just him being a bit annoyed at being left out in previous game. Rather odd he decided not to travel too, as he tweeted that he was looking forward to the game after the Saints match.

I assumed that he had been tapped up by someone, but throwing his toys out of the pram after being dropped sounds equally believable, however selfish it may be
