Griffin set to join

Brian McDermott spoke earlier in the week about wanting to add experience to his squad, and they had some positions in mind. It has come as no great surprise then to hear that we are after Stoke right back Andy Griffin.

We only have one fit right back currently, Shaun Cummings, and he is out of favour and not even making the match day squad. Griffin is in a similar situation at premiership Stoke City and could be about to seal a loan move until the end of the season.

Griffin, who has also played for Newcastle and Portsmouth amongst others, was a regular last season as the Potters avoided relegation but has found himself behind Abdoulae Faye and Andy Wilkinson in the pecking order at the Brittania Stadium so far this campaign.

We hope to have the deal tied up before next Saturdays trip to Nottingham Forest, as he wouldn’t be eligable to feature in the cup replay against Liverpool in any case.

  • South Bank says:

Would have preferred Nicky Hunt, who has just joined Derby on loan, but not a bad move and will add some experience to the defence.
