An injury to Nicky Shorey at the weekend meant that Scott Golbourne was forced into making his Premiership debut a little sooner than would have been expected, but he didn’t disappoint, even if he was understandably disappointed with the result.

“I was obviously delighted to make my debut but the team got beat 3-0, we came here for three points so it’s a disappointing day all round,” he told Reading World.

“Nicky didn’t train Thursday, he tried on Friday but had to pull out so the gaffer gave me the nod and I was very pleased.

“I wasn’t nervous, and I was quite surprised by that! It felt quite similar to Korea when I played out there. They were big games, not as big as the Premier League of course but still first team.”

Golbourne, who has spend a spell on loan with Bristol City, was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing Saturday showing against Bolton, and he will again be in the squad for the Swansea match tonight, being an almost certain starter again.

He looks to have a bright future, but will hopefully have to understudy Shorey for a while longer yet though.
