Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has been included in the 35-man Great Britain Olympic squad for London 2012.
GB boss Stuart Pearce had to narrow down his original 80-man selection, with the 22-year old goalkeeper making the 35-man squad. However, the squad will narrowed down once again in July to the final 18-man squad that will participate in the tournament.
Pearce knows McCarthy from he played for the England U21s and when he selected the Royals shot-stopper for the European U21 Championships in Denmark last year. Despite McCarthy failing to make an appearance for Reading this season, he had successful loan spells at Leeds and Ipswich.
