Reading’s assistant manager Nigel Gibbs has spoken of his utmost praise for his counterpart Brian McDermott, branding him as ‘fantastic’.

The 46-year old coach joined the club back in 2006, working mainly with the youth players at the club. Gibbs has managed to work his way up through the coaching pyramid and was appointed assisstant manager when Brian McDermott took over in December 2009.

Speaking to the official Reading FC website, Gibbs said: ‘I’m so proud and privileged to work here. He’s been fantastic ever since he got the job, he’s remained calm, he’s organised the team, brought in some really good players and to get this club promoted is a fantastic achievement.’

Gibbs, who was an England U21 international, made his name at Watford. He made over 400 appearances for the Hornets, making him the second highest appearance-maker at Watford in their history. With Gibbs by his side, McDermott has mastermined a win percentage over 50%, besides from winning promotion last week.
