Despite our severe injury crisis, Nigel Adkins praised his side’s resilience in their league cup victory over Scunthorpe.

Jake Taylor’s 85th minute goal at Glanford Park gave us a narrow victory against the League One side, who were unlucky not to win on the night. It means that we go into the hat for next round of the cup, despite having ten first team players out injured.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: ‘We’re in the hat after what was always going to be a very challenging fixture. There’s a phenomenal amount of players unavailable, but we still managed to get a team out and get through to the next round.’

‘If you want to have cup runs, this division is relentless and you need a squad having a real go. After losing at Forest we asked for a response and a clean sheet and we got that tonight. I know we can keep improving, but it’s good that we’re winning.’

As mentioned in the match report, it wasn’t a pretty game or performance from us, but it saw us through to the next round, which is the main aspect. A victory and clean sheet will be a good confidence boost for the team going into the Middlesbrough game.
