The latest addition of the Vital Reading blog….

I think it is fair to say that most would have taken a 4-1 win over Bristol City, followed by a 1-1 draw at Hull over the christmas period especially when you consider how badly we played in the first 20 minutes on Boxing Day. To come back and score four goals and put in an assured performance, with Shane Long outstanding, was very pleasing.

Whilst I fancied us to nick a win up at Hull, lets not forgot they are now 8 unbeaten like ourselves so a point is not a bad result at all and once again we snatched a point with a late goal. If only Long had been as deadly in front of goal as he was two days before then it could quite easily have been another three points.

It’s back on the road on New Years Day and a trip down the M4 to Swansea. Brendan Rodgers side are still challenging for the automatic promotion places but were hammered at QPR on Boxing Day but responded well wo beat Barnsley two days later. The Liberty Stadium is a tough place to go but I can see us getting a point before finishing the festive period with a home win against now managerless Burnley.

Finally the New Year brings the opening of the transfer window and with Brian McDermott’s side sat in 6th place in the table, surely now he must be backed by Sir John Madejski? I am not talking millions and millions but a transfer window without talk of cutting the cloth accordingly and a little activity to bring in a new striker would be very welcome. I would also like to see us sign Leigertwood permanently as I have been very impressed with him and take back all I said when we signed him. He looks a decent player and another quality signing by McDermott, lets hope he gets the cash to sign a few more to bolster the forward line.
