The latest addition of the Vital Reading Blog – Happy Christmas!

Firstly, Happy Christmas to all Vital Reading users. It’s not been a bad year for the Royals really when you consider how disappointing 2009 was, as least we saw some home wins this year! Before the end of the year we will run down our 10 favourite moments of 2010 so keep an eye out for that.

Back to the next few games then and the Boxing Day visit of Bristol City promises to be a good game. Since they beat us 1-0 at Ashton Gate in October the Robins have been on a good run of form that has seen them climb away from the bottom of the table. Brett Pitmann, the one time Reading target, has been banging in the goals after finding his feet at this level following his move from Bournemouth in the summer and he will be a threat.

The Royals have an almost fully fit squad to choose from now though after the Icelandic duo Ivar Ingimarsson and Brynjar Gunnarsson returned to training this week. With 4 games coming up in quick succesion you can be sure we will see a bit of rotation form McDermott so the likes of Tabb, Howard and Church who are out of the team at the moment are likely to see some football this festive season.

Trips to Hull and Swansea follow the Bristol City game before a home game against Burnley. With 12 points on offer I am going to predict that we will get 10. I appreciate that is quite optimistic, which is not usually like me, but last weekend’s victory over Derby has given me some confidence. I can see us drawing 0-0 at Swansea and winning the other three games – fingers crossed!

Christmas time also means one other thing, the transfer window is nearly upon us. Crazy time for rumours I know but we really need to sign a striker. It’s boring to keep saying it but we really do! I hope McDermott realises that this window and I hope Madejski backs him with the funds.

There are a couple of players in the lower leagues that we could afford and would also be good additions to our squad. Firstly Adam Le Frondre at Rotherham scores for fun at that level and has been watched by a number of clubs, how about we take a punt on him?

Also there is a lad we saw earlier in the season in our league cup tie with Torquay, Elliot Benyon. He is looking a hell of a player at League Two level and I know we have been watching him, now is the time to make a move!

Got any thoughts on who we should in January? Let us know….
