Former England international Joe Cole has been linked with a sensational move to Reading.

The Daily Star has reported that the Royals are keen to add Premier League experience to their squad, with the former Chelsea midfielder fitting that bill. Cole, who is currently on loan at French side Lille, is still currently under contract with Liverpool for another two years but is considered surplus to requirements at Anfield.

However, the 30-year old’s wages are likely to be a problem for Brian McDermott, who has vowed not to break the clubs current wage structure. Cole is believed to be on around £80,000-a-week with Liverpool, meaning that a loan deal would be the most realistic option for Reading. Barnsley’s Jacob Butterfield is another midfielder that the Premier League new boys are considering.

Very true, swings and roundabouts I suppose. One of the most technically gifted players on his day, wages would be an obvious problem though.
