Federici’s World Cup wait

Australian Federici had a fine season for the Royals in his first as number one and unlike his team mates, he has been working hard since the final game against Preston last weekend.

That is because he is still hopeful of going to the World Cup with Australia and he doesn’t have long to wait to find out the news.

On Tuesday coach Pim Verbeek will name his squad for South Africa and Federici is likely to go as the 3rd choice goalkeeper. Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer is the Aussie’s number 1, with a number of other keepers including Middlesbrough’s Brad Jones, keen to deputise in his absence.

Verbeek is expected to go with Jones and Federici due to their experience of the big games, instead of some of those playing in the ‘A’ League.

Don’t forget to check back to Vital Reading tomorrow to find out if we will have a Royal at the World Cup.
