The transfer of Roysten Drenthe is nearing completion, after his agent confirmed he has signed the contract to join Reading.

The 26-year old was reported to be completing his medical next week, but conflicting reports have stating the deal could be confirmed on Monday. Drenthe will move to the Madejski Stadium on a free, after a clause in his contract at Alania stated he could leave if the club were relegated, which they were.

Quoted by Sky Sports, his agent Fabian Veldwijk appeared to confirm the imminent deal by saying: ‘The contract has been signed. A few small things have to be arranged before it’s official. He has a good feeling with the club and wants to play in England.’

It still doesn’t seem right that a Dutch international is signing for us, albeit he comes across as a bit of a nutter! It would be interesting to know whether Anton drove this signing, or Adkins genuinely wanted him, despite his previous fall-outs with other managers.
