Joyous news indeed; news was released today that Reading`s top goalscorer Kevin Doyle has extended his current contract with Reading and will now be with the club until the summer of 2010, a year longer then his previous contract.

The Irish international penned a new deal in a press conference today. Fellow Irishman Stephen Hunt was also there to put pen to paper on a deal that will see his contract continue beyond this season when it was supposed to run out and into 2009.

Doyle is expected to be earning a significant amount more then he first signed for in the summer, in light of his incredible goal scoring record so far this season.

Doyle has been fundamental in Reading`s first Premiership season scoring 10 goals – not bad for a feller who hasn`t ever played in the Premiership before.

Everyone at the club was thrilled to hear the two player have signed up for longer:
‘This is extremely good news and I am delighted that Kevin and Stephen have committed themselves to Reading Football Club,” Chairman John Madejski told the club’s official website.
‘They are two of the nicest lads you could possibly wish to meet, and they are both very important players who epitomise everything that is good about football.’
Hunt and Doyle were both on the score sheet in Reading`s ruiningof West Ham on New Year`s Day; between them the two scored half the goals in the 6-0 demoliton.
Vital Reading hopes Steve Sidwell will join the pair soon?

quality player, a good honest pro there’s no bull***** with this lad just gets on with the game. he could play for any of the top sides on work ethic alone.

  • Rogue says:

Amen to that, Kanchelskis. Doyle’s a top player, but given his attitude and the fact that Coppell gave him his first big opportunity, I think he’d prefer to stay with the Royals than to move on.
