Royals marksman Kevin Doyle spoke today about how well this season had gone and how he was looking forward to next season.

Doyle grabbed the goal that ensured Reading went into the Premiership with weeks of the season still to play when he hit his 14th goal of the season after 84 minutes of the game with Leicester at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday.

The 22 year old has recently been awarded the Eircom/FAI Under-21 international Player of the Year around the same time as earning his first full cap for the Republic of Ireland.

Doyle told the Daily Star: ‘I could never have dreamed all this happening to me a few months ago. The season has gone 100 times better than I had expected,’

‘If next season goes just 10 per cent as well as this one, I will be happy.

‘Now we want to survive in the Premiership. It can be done. Finishing above the bottom three will be a success. But who knows, we could even get into Europe.’

  • Aim for Survival lad, don’t even dream of Europe. You and I both know it will be tough first up, but there again Wigan did it didn’t they .

  • Congratulations to Reading on your promotion, have always kept a little eye on what you do. Will be good playing against you next season in the premiership. A spurs fan
