Alex Pearce only played once in Nigel Adkins’ eight games as Reading boss, but cited him as a reason for signing his new deal!

The 24-year committed his future to the Madejski Stadium on Friday, by signing a new two-year contract, after his original deal expired. Pearce was not favoured under the new Royals boss at the start of his tenure, but could have been due to the contractual issues.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Pearce said: ‘It’s a great club with a great set of players and a great set of staff. Obviously, the manager has come in and has some great new ideas. He was a key factor in me signing as well.’

‘Before the season finished, he told me that he wanted me to stay and it’s great to be ready to play under him. I want to play as many games as possible and help get this club back to the Premier League – where it belongs in my opinion.’

It’s quite interesting that Adkins said that he wanted Pearce to stay, as on the balance, Pearce isn’t as well adapted to Adkins’ sysytem if you consider Morrison and Mariappa. Pearcey is a top defender, but does not seem comfortable with the ball at his feet – something to work on in pre-season though.
