Cup Means Sweet FA To Kits

This weekend sees the 3rd round ties of the most famous cup in football, the FA Cup.

With Reading making the short journey to Spurs on Saturday, it will come of little surprise to Reading fans that Steve Coppell will travel with a weakened squad.

Whilst Coppell has often been criticised for his selection policy regarding cup competitions, Royals top scorer Dave Kitson couldn’t agree more with him.

Kitson, a boyhood Spurs fan, will be one of many first teamers rested for Saturday’s game, but perhaps somewhat surprisingly, he could not be happier; ‘We won`t win it.

‘I don`t give two sh**s about it to be honest. All I care about is staying in the Premier League. That`s what everybody at this club cares about.

‘Our status is not protected by staying in the FA Cup. It`s as simple as that.

‘It`s a fantastic competition and hopefully one day we`ll be in a position where we can compete for it, but not now and that`s how things are.’

Kitson believes that the Royals players need a rest and this could be key to their survival; ‘We have just come off the back of some fixtures that have been tightly packed together and we have played almost two full games with 10 men.

‘I am absolutely shattered and so is Kevin Doyle and a lot of the other players are as well.’

Despite Reading being just five places off the relegation zone, Kitson is convinced that the Royals will still be playing Premier League football next season.

‘I maintain there are three teams in this division who are not as good as we are and I feel that will keep us in the Premier League.

‘Results went for us again on Tuesday but that can`t keep happening.

‘It seems when we really need a win, we win, but when we need a win to put some distance between us, we lose. A bit of consistency would be nice, but form like that doesn`t tend to get a team relegated. I hope that doesn`t come back to haunt me.’

Whilst both Kitson and Coppell will be heavily criticised for their negative views on such a prestigious competition, I’m sure neither of them will ‘give two sh**s’, if the Royals can survive another season in the top flight.
