Reading defender Shaun Cummings was pleased to make his first Premier League appearance against Newcastle on Saturday, also glad to be alongside Jimmy Kebe again.

The 23-year old had been pushed out of the starting XI at the beginning of the campaign, by new signing Chris Gunter. However, after an accomplished performance against QPR last week, the former Chelsea defender was promoted back to the team and spoke about the relighting of his partnership with returning winger Jimmy Kebe.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, the former Chelsea defender said: “I`ve played with Jimmy throughout most of last season, we know each other`s strengths and that partnership is very good at the moment. Hopefully we can keep it going. The day was a good experience, I`ve been waiting patiently and finally got that opportunity on the main stage.’

‘I have always wanted to be there as a kid. I`ve finally reached that. It`s about preparation now – we take the positives from this performance and the performance in midweek, and take that to Swansea. The Newcastle goal is another one where people might call for technology, but here`s nothing we can do about it, we`ve just got to get on with it.’
