Andy Crosby has said manager Nigel Adkins will give the under 21s a chance to impress, when they return to training next week.

Martin Kuhl’s under 21 won the Premier League cup last season and Adkins has stressed his desire to use younger players in the first team. They will return for pre-season on Monday and the manager will be casting an eye over their progress in the coming weeks.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Crosby said: ‘Myself, the gaffer, Dean, Harvo and all the staff speaking regularly and things have been nailed down for pre-season. Pre-season will be challenging for all of us, then the season is ten months which is a long time.’

‘This time we hope we’re celebrating something at the end of it. The under 21s are in back in next week and I know the manager told some of them it was a little trial for them over the summer, and we’ll see who joins the first team group from there.’

I’m sure the likes of Pierce Sweeney, Craig Tanner and Aaron Kuhl will be closely analysed by the gaffer, after very promising campaigns last season. We have lost a large number of a players over the summer, so it will be good to blood some younger players into the squad.
