New signing Simon Cox is looking forward to forming a good partnership with fellow striker Pavel Pogrebnyak.

The Republic of Ireland international is expected to start with big Pav up front against Ipswich today, as both did against Newport in the cup on Tuesday. Pog has never really seemed to form a good partnership with anyone since he has been here, but Cox will hope to fix that.

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle, Cox said: ‘Obviously Pavel is a big, strong guy who takes a lot of defenders away with him. That allows me to play in between the lines & get in those little pockets that I like to. I can bring other players into the game and run at defenders.’

‘Hopefully throughout the season you`ll be able to see that the partnership between me and Pog will work wonders. I think that every day I train with the boys they get to know me and I get to know them. Tuesday was a good workout and every day I`m getting fitter.’

There wasn’t much link up between the two on Tuesday, but it will take time for them to blend – the points that Cox make are very valid ones though. We have been crying out for a number ten to play behind Pog for a while now and Cox could be the one to fill that void.
