Saturday’s trip to West Brom see’s a few reunion’s, Shaun Cummings with the side he was on loan with earlier in the season as well as West Brom number 2 Eddie Newton with Royals gaffer Brendan Rodgers who worked together with the Chelsea academy, but no one will be more determined to impress against his old employers than Simon Cox.
The West Brom striker left the Madejski Stadium in January 2008 for Swindon and his goalscoring exploits at the County Ground earned him a £1.9 million move to the Hawthorns in the summer.
However he hasn’t got off to the best of starts and has yet to score in the league, despite a goal in the Carling Cup, and has found himself on the bench a lot so far. However he has received the backing from manager Roberto Di Matteo this week and wants to open his league account against the Royals, and in front of his Reading supporting family and friends!
He told the West Brom official site, ‘It would be brilliant to open my league account against my former club, it would be a little sweeter if it came against Reading.’
Despite being determined to sink the Royals this weekend he remains good friends with a lot of the current squad, who he played with during his time in the youth team at the Madejski Stadium, but those friendships will be on hold for 90 minutes on Saturday!
