Copps: We can end Fulham

Royals boss Steve Coppell feels that a win over Fulham on Saturday will condemn the Londoners to Championship football next season.

A win would surely see the Royals safe for another year, and all but guarantee to send Fulham back into lower league obscurity.

Coppell said, ‘Both teams need to win but Fulham need to win more.

‘It would be very difficult for them to get out if they don’t win.

‘In a game like this there is always an element of nerves, an element of bottle and of people just being prepared to get a result come what may.

‘And as the games in Europe showed this week, a lot can happen in 90 minutes – referees, injuries, slips. These things can determine a game.’

Seems as though Sir Steve is already making excuses for Fulham or perhaps for himself, should the Cottagers pull off a surprise victory.

Won thing is for sure, there will be many a smug Reading fan should the Royals condemn Fulham to relegation. Football fans have long memories, and few loyal Royals will have forgotten the arrogance of the Fulham faithful as they let out a chorus of ‘We’ll never play you again!’ as Fulham were on their way up and the Royals on their way down.
