Coppell Rules out Ireland job

Steve Coppell had been moved to distance himself from the vacant Republic of Ireland post.

A recent interview that Coppell gave Irish television had been used to start speculation that maybe he would be interested in taking the job, which is now available after Steve Staunton’s departure, however although this is something that might tempt him in the future this is not for him now, as he remains fully committed to reading, “The stories are just people being mischievous but I did do an interview with Pat Dolan, who does the TV over there, and he asked about it,” Coppell told the media.

“I just said the older I get, the more international football appeals to me. Eight games a year – I could quite happily do that.

“I also happened to mention my grandmother was Irish so to all intents and purposes I qualify.”

One day maybe, but not today as he still has plenty to offer club football, which will hopefully be with Reading right through to the end?

Coppell could do an international job, and as he says in the future he might want to but not yet, he has too much to offer Reading to walk away just yet.

I should hang on Coppell fro the England job when it comes up again in a few months.

I’d doubt it, but you never know.
