Reading boss Steve Coppell has admitted he will be looking to add depth to his front line in the January transfer window – provided Dave Kitson stays on the injury list.

Kitson, last season`s top goalscorer, has been missing from action since this season`s opening victory against Middlesbrough. The injury prone striker has been plagued with a knee injury that does not show signs of getting better any time soon.

The 26-year old was originally scheduled for a return at Wigan two games after the injury was picked up, but this was soon put back to the following game in September and since then the Club hasn`t bothered predicting how long the player will be out for!

Kitsons presence has been missed on the pitch with only the Sheff Utd game seeing more then one goal for the Royals in the league since Kitson`s absence.

And now it seems Steve Coppell will look for a player similar to Kitson to put an end to this

‘We have missed the option of a more physical presence.’ Coppell said,
“(Signing a new striker) is something we would have to look at, definitely. My job would demand that we have to get someone if the signs of recovery are not complete by then.”

Reading`s other strikers, Shane Long and Leroy Lita have tried to fill Kitson`s boots in his absence but both have performed poorly in the face of goal. Lita has managed to score just once in the League this season and Long has yet to find net, however both players have shone in Reserve games and Cup ties.

The two will be looking to claim a place upfront in Sunday`s fixture with Tottenham. Both strikers missed out against Liverpool, where Steve Coppell opted for a 5-4-1 formation. Lita and Long will find competition for the vacant striker spot from Seol Ki-Hyeon who could find his position on the wing annexed after Glenn Little performed well against Liverpool.

In other Reading news, Graeme Murty is expected to make his return for the Spurs game while Curtis Osano has extended his loan trial at Aldershot Town.
