Steve Coppell has announced his intentions to sign new players in the January transfer window.

The man in charge at the Madejski is eager to add a couple of additions to his wafer thin squad, especially with recent injury worries.

Ibrahima Sonko and Brynjar Gunnarsson joined their captain Graeme Murty on inury list after picking up hip and hamstring injuries respectively. Murty has been sidelined by a groin strain brought on in Reading`s away defeat to Man Utd.

Coppell is, as always, without Dave Kitson and Bobby Convey both of whom have spent the best part of the season out of play. However expect to see them back in action against Burnley in Staurdays FA Cup tie.

Coppell spoke about exposed position injuries can put you in in the Premier League and seemed eager to add strength to his squad in this transfer opening:

“We become more vulnerable than most with a few injuries.”

The Royals are allegedly pursuing Greg Halford, currently at Colchester United a player who is versatile throughout defence and midfield.

Reading have already had a 1million bid turned down and will no doubt have to aim a lot higher with fellow promoted rivals Sheffield United also in the running for Halford.

Coppell has also kept his eye on John Mensah the defender who was at the centre of a failed bid from the summer.

However it is unclear whether the Rennes man will be interested in moving tot the club.

You’ve done brilliantly with the players you have. Hopefully a few bigger names can consolidate your place in the Premiership…
