Reading boss Steve Coppell has put an end to speculation and rumours by signing a new one year deal at the Madejski Stadium

Coppell has been linked with various clubs after appearing to be in no rush to sign a new contract with the Royals, the vacant post at Charlton now Alan Curbishley has left was high on the list of favourites.

But all this speculation came about even though Coppell had stated that his future lies with Reading.

As well as leading the Royals on a record breaking championship title, Coppell has also been noted for bringing in such players as Kevin Doyle and getting the best out of him and fellow young players Steve Sidwell and James Harper.

Coppell said: ‘In my mind there was never any doubt that I’d sign another contract at Reading. It was never an issue for me, as I consistently said when asked about it.

‘I know this club well and I understand and appreciate the desire of our chairman and everyone at Reading Football Club to do well next season. We are looking forward to the next challenge which is infinitely bigger than the last one.’
