Coppel Refuses

Steve Coppell said he won’t contemplate Premiership football despite the 1-1 draw with Hull keeping them second in the league.

The Royals are unbeaten since the start of the season in an impressive run of fifteen games in all competitions.

‘It’s absolutely futile looking at the table at this early stage of the season. It doesn’t matter what anyone else does – we’re just concentrating on doing our own thing and getting as many points as possible. We just want to continue playing well and deal with the matter of taking every game as it comes. Then hopefully we will be in a position where we are lucky to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.’

Coppell did however say we should have got all three points against Hull despite a nightmare journey! ‘We had a nightmare getting here because we were stuck in a lay-by for two hours. That might have had something to do with why we lacked that bit of ‘oomph’ at times.’

Continuing:

‘I thought a point was the bare minimum we deserved. We dominated for long periods and were in control, but when they scored I was pleased we kept our shape and didn’t lose our discipline. When we went behind we responded in the right way – we didn’t panic, we continued to pass the ball and continued to create chances.’
