Convey Suffers Another Injury

Just when it looked as though Bobby Convey was over his injury problems after so long out, he has been struck down again.

The American came on to great success against Wigan last weekend, something which prompted Steve Coppell to challenge him to stake a claim for a regular place, and he rose to this challenge by scoring a cracking goal against Liverpool in the Carling Cup defeat in midweek. This goal looked like earning him a starting place against Portsmouth on Saturday, but an injury in training has put an end to that.

Convey is deeply disappointed as he has not started a Premiership match for 11-months, which was actually against Portsmouth at Fratton Park, and Steve Coppell was also disappointed as he explained to the media, “Bobby has tweaked something right at the top of his leg. He is massively disappointed. That will take him out of contention, I would think, for the weekend.

“He crossed the ball and something went and he had to come in for a bit of treatment. He tried it in a five-a-side but had to come in again. I can’t see him being fit on Friday morning.”

Stephen Hunt was expected to keep his place on the left but Convey could have switched to the right, which has been something of a problem area for Reading with Glenn Little’s long standing injury problem, and is currently being occupied by Liam Rosenior, who is a right back by trade.
