QPR defender Matthew Connolly admitted it ‘felt like home’ when he signed for the Royals back in January but is unsure about his future at the club.

The 24-year old joined the Royals on deadline day in January and made a total of six appearances, with an ankle injury hindering his chances in March and April. Despite primarily being a centre-back, he played all of his games on the right side of defence for Brian McDermott’s side.

Speaking to the Reading Post, Connolly said: ‘They are an amazing group of players and staff and it helped a lot. Brian is a great manager and I’ve had a great time here. But I have one more year with QPR. Every player wants to be wanted and I’m not sure what Brian is thinking at the moment but it’s nice to have options.’

‘Right now, I have no idea what the future holds. I still have one year left on my contract at QPR and I respect and honour that. I don’t know how Mark Hughes feels or has in his mind or what players he wants to keep, but I will go back there for pre-season and train. Whatever happens over the summer happens, I’m not sure.’

It was reported earlier in the week that Reading were keen to take Connolly on a permanent deal for a fee around £900k. A defender appears to be high on McDermott’s wanted list this summer, having already been linked with Zak Whitbread, Curtis Davies and Tottenham captain Ledley King.
